Privacy Policy

Welcome to www.investedok.org (the “Site”). The Site is operated by the Oklahoma Department of Securities (Department). This Privacy Policy explains what the Department does with data collected as a result of your visit to or use of this Site, including personally identifiable information (Personal Information). Personal Information includes names, addresses, phone numbers, and other information that is readily identifiable to a specific individual. The Department reserves the right to change this policy at any time and you should occasionally review it to monitor any changes.

Data Collection and Use
Information collected when you browse the Site

The Department has designed the Site so that you are not required to provide any Personal Information unless you access certain functions on the Site. When you merely browse this Site, the Department has access to, but does not generally retain, the information collected by Google Analytics. The Department reviews the Google Analytics information to improve the content of its web services and to understand how people are using such services. Information collected if you volunteer information

If during your visit to the Site you participate in a survey, send the Department an email, participate in the Students Tracking and Researching the Stock Market program (STARS program), or perform some other transaction online, the following Personal Information may be collected:

  1. Your email address and contents of any email.
  2. Information volunteered in response to a survey.
  3. Information volunteered through an online form or educational program that may include the following:
    • Name, email address, school, grade level,
    • Education course identification,
    • Risk tolerance assessments and education assessments,
    • Message board communications,
    • Company and stock research data,
    • Selection of stock for an online market portfolio simulation,
    • Reports submitted as part of the Invest Ed® STARS high school educational program,
    • Registration information for training courses, and
    • Contact information including phone number and school mailing address.

The information collected is not limited to text characters and may include audio, video, and graphic information formats you send the Department.

Personal Information

The Department will not collect Personal Information about you unless you voluntarily provide it by sending an email, completing an online form or survey, or participating in the STARS program. You may choose not to contact the Department by e-mail or to provide any Personal Information using an online form or survey; however, your choice to not participate in these activities may restrict or impair your ability to use the Site and read or download any information provided on the Site. The Department must keep all records submitted to it for specified time periods in accordance with records retention schedules approved by the State of Oklahoma; these schedules change from time to time. If you choose to provide Personal Information by emailing the Department, participating in a survey, completing an online form, or participating in the STARS program, the Department will store this information in a secure manner.

Use of Personal Information

Personal Information collected through the Site is used solely to support your relationship with the Department. We will not sell or share the Personal Information collected through the Site. We may disclose information in response to subpoenas, courts orders, or to otherwise comply with the law as described below. We also may share your Personal Information with service providers who help us operate the Site and provide any services offered on the Site. For example, email you send to the Department may be used to respond to operational issues with the site and to further improve the Department’s services. The Department may forward your email to another agency or a vendor for appropriate action.

Storage of Personal Information

All Personal Information is stored in a secure manner on a password protected server maintained by the Department.

Public Access to Information

In the State of Oklahoma, laws exist to ensure and facilitate the public’s right of access to and review of government records. At the same time, there are statutory exceptions to the public's right to access government records in order to protect the privacy interests of individuals. Exceptions are provided by both state and federal laws.

As a public agency, all of the Department’s information is governed by the Oklahoma Open Records Act, Okla. Stat. tit. 51, §§ 24A.1 – 24A.30, and Section 1-607 of the Oklahoma Uniform Securities Act of 2004 (Securities Act), Okla. Stat. tit. 71, §§ 1-101 – 1-701. As a result, information collected through use of the Site may be public information and subject to inspection and copying by members of the public if not otherwise protected by federal or state law.

In the event of a conflict between this Privacy Policy and the Oklahoma Open Records Act or the Securities Act, the Oklahoma Open Records Act or the Securities Act will control.

User Tracking and Customization of Pages

To better serve its users, the Department uses a variety of indicators to customize your browsing experience on the Site, including “cookies.” If you use your browser settings to opt to block all cookies (including essential cookies) in the settings to your web browser (such as Internet Explorer, Safari, Chrome or Firefox), the availability and functionality of the Site could be affected. The Department only has control over indicators it provides and not over third-party tools or other technologies deployed on the Site that may be created by using embedded third-party applications.

The Department has taken steps to safeguard the integrity of its data and prevent unauthorized access to the information it maintains. These measures are designed and intended to prevent corruption of data; block unknown or unauthorized access to our systems and information; and to provide reasonable protection of information in the Department’s possession.
